Security Service Federal Credit Union and other credit unions currently face a threat from the banking industry that could severely limit our ability to provide our members the products and services they want and deserve. “Operation Credit Union” is an organized nationwide campaign by the American Bankers Association and their 50 state affiliates designed to impose severe limits at the state and federal levels on our ability to grow our credit union and to impose income taxes on us. Credit unions are, by law, exempt from these taxes as not-for-profit financial cooperatives. We do pay property, payroll and other taxes. If the banking industry is successful in their nationwide campaign it could negatively impact the attractive rates we are able to offer our members for loan products and the interest rates we can pay on deposits. In an effort to be able to help thwart such attacks and effectively participate in the political process, we formed the Security Service Federal Credit Union Political Action Committee (SSFCUPAC). This initiative helps Security Service have a voice in the legislative arena and to provide us the ability to influence issues that directly impact our industry. The SSFCUPAC enables the credit union to provide financial support to the campaigns of elected officials and candidates. Because of our support, we are able to have direct access and to positively influence lawmakers to support credit union initiatives and issues. Such support is vital in ensuring that the credit union industry remains strong and vibrant. And it allows Security Service to continue to afford its members convenience, value and top-quality products and services. The SSFCUPAC is non-partisan and supports individuals and organizations at the state and national levels that support issues and initiatives important to SSFCU and the credit union industry. From its inception over two years ago, the SSFCUPAC has been funded solely by voluntary contributions from SSFCU employees. To help battle the banker’s campaign and to continue as a strong participant in the political process, Security Service is asking its members to help by supporting the SSFCUPAC. Security Service members may contribute to the SSFCUPAC on an annual or reoccurring basis. Any contribution will be greatly appreciated and will help ensure the continued viability of your credit union. The Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) and state statutes in Texas and Colorado prohibit corporations from using their general treasury funds to make contributions in connection with federal and state elections. Campaign contributions for Federal and state candidates are limited to individual, personal contributions and those from Political Action Committees. Therefore, we need help from our members. Together, we can maintain an influential political action committee and support our elected officials and those seeking office. They can help us ensure Security Service and the credit union industry are able to effectively combat spurious attacks like those stated above and remain strong and viable. For more information on how to contribute, you may contact our 24/7 Member Contact Center at 1- 888-415-7878, log onto www.ssfcu.org or visit any of our service center locations. Thank you in advance for your help and consideration. Sincerely, ![]() David Reynolds
