A secure connection to our loan applications ensures that the information transmitted over the internet, between your browser and the SSFCU site, is encrypted. There are two general indications of a secured web page:

  1. Check the web page URL

Normally, when browsing the web, the URL's (web page addresses) will begin with the letters "http". However, over a secure connection, the address displayed should begin with “https” - note the “s” at the end.

  2. Check for the "Lock" icon
  3. There is a standard among web browsers to display a closed "lock" icon somewhere in the window of the browser (NOT in the web page display area). Depending on your browser version, the lock may appear in the lower left or lower right of the browser window, or in the browser address bar.

Example, the lock icon appears in the lower-right of the browser window:

Example, the lock icon appears in the browser address bar:

The Lock icon is not just an image. Click on it to display the site’s security certificate (issued by a Trusted Certificate Authority, such as Verisign). When you check the certificate, the name following Issued to should match the site you think you are on. If the name differs, you may be on a spoofed site.
