(SALT LAKE CITY, UT – OCTOBER 11, 2022) –– The Security Service Charitable Foundation donated $2,100 to Catholic Community Services in Salt Lake City. This donation will be used to purchase chef’s uniforms and baking supplies for students who were formerly homeless and are now working in The Kitchen Academy program.  The Kitchen Academy provides culinary services for St. Vincent de Paul Dining Hall.

“The Kitchen Academy at Catholic Community Services focuses on teaching students life skills and culinary skills,” said Randy Chappell, basic needs director for Catholic Community Services. “Thanks to this donation from the Security Service Charitable Foundation, we are able to help more individuals overcome the burden of homelessness as we provide them with the tools and services to gain employment at a local restaurant.”

The Catholic Community Services Kitchen Academy Program is a 12-week program that allows participants to learn different culinary skills. After graduation, the individuals will work at a local restaurant while receiving case management for an additional year. During that year, Catholic Community Services makes sure they stay employed and have housing.

“Catholic Communities Services provides wonderful tools and services to individuals in need,” said Josie Brande, assistant vice president of member service—Mountain West region for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “We proudly support this organization because it assists in tackling homelessness in our community through providing these individuals with the tools they need to land a job.”

Since 1945, Catholic Community Services of Utah has been empowering people in need along the Wasatch Front to reach self-sufficiency.

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
