SECURITY SERVICE CHARITABLE FOUNDATION DONATES $2,500 TO HELP FEED THOUSANDS
Money will provide food to more than 2,000 people
(SAN ANTONIO, TX – MARCH 14, 2023) –– The Security Service Charitable Foundation donated $2,500 to Daily Bread Ministries of San Antonio, Texas. This donation will be used to purchase a mixture of shelf-stable dry goods and fresh, cold food items to help feed approximately 2,100 people.
“Last year, Daily Bread Ministries assisted more than 85,000 individuals through our food programs,” said Marcus Walker, executive director for Daily Bread Ministries. “Inflation and fuel costs have negatively affected many trying to recover financially, and with donations like this from the Security Service Charitable Foundation, the number of individuals we serve this year is on track to be the same if not slightly greater.”
The Security Service Charitable Foundation’s donation will help Daily Bread Ministries get a semi-truck load of dry goods containing products like grain, cereals, and pasta. The items cost approximately $1,000 and feed approximately 900 individuals. The funds will also help the organization get a semi-truck load of cold food items including chicken, yogurt, and produce. The cost for the cold items is approximately $1,500 and will feed close to 1,200 people.
“Daily Bread Ministries not only provides essential food items to our community in need, but they also address the defined root cause of poverty,” said Brandy Ralston-Lint, senior vice president of corporate communications for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “The organization’s food and training programs speak to the Charitable Foundation’s goal to better the community and help improve the quality of life.”
Daily Bread Ministries serves San Antonio and the surrounding area including Bexar, Bandera, Comal, Kendall, Kerr, Gillespie, Medina, and Uvalde counties. The organization was founded in 1996 by Seth Kuehn, a former farmer and vending business owner. The organization initially operated out of Mr. Kuehn’s garage with a handful of volunteers who distributed food from vendors to inner city churches.
The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
