Funds help provide nutritious meals to seniors and their pets

(SAN ANTONIO, TX – APRIL 11, 2022) –– The Security Service Charitable Foundation donated $2,500 to San Antonio-based Meals on Wheels. The non-profit prepares and delivers hot, nutritious meals each weekday to older and disabled community members throughout Bexar, Frio, and Atascosa counties. The organization also has a program, AniMeals, that helps provide food for pets belonging to seniors.

“Last year, we helped approximately 6,400 individuals and delivered more than 1.1 million meals,” said Anna Wimberly, corporate engagement and events coordinator for Meals on Wheels. “This donation helps keep seniors and their pets fed, but it also promotes the dignity and independence of seniors in our community.”

The donation from Security Service will help Meals on Wheels deliver meals for breakfast, lunch, and the weekend. The organization also provides specially made frozen meals to offer additional nutrition outside of operational hours. AniMeals provides pet food to nourish the pets of seniors.

“Meals on Wheels provides meals for senior citizens and their pets that many would not receive otherwise,” said Brandy Ralston-Lint, senior vice president of corporate communications for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “In addition to providing nutrition to senior citizens and their pets, there’s also an element of companionship between the volunteers and seniors during the deliveries that we’re proud to support.”

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
