Funds helped replace porch with safer, weather-resistant flooring

(SAN ANTONIO, TX – APRIL 11, 2022) –– Children with special needs have a new place to play outside thanks to a $6,500 donation from The Security Service Charitable Foundation. Respite Care of San Antonio (RCSA) used the money to replace the aging back porch at Najim Familly Children’s Home with a safer one, made of durable exterior wood flooring.

The previous porch flooring was made of inside material and was not weather-resistant. The Security Service charitable foundation’s donation gives RCSA’s children the opportunity to enjoy fresh air and a sheltered venue to better appreciate the outdoors.

“The work Respite Care is doing for children with special needs and complex medical conditions in our community is remarkable,” said Jay Winslow, executive vice president & CIO for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “It is a pleasure to be able to provide them with the financial support needed to update the porch so it can be used for playtime, snack time, relaxation and more.”

Respite Care is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to protect, love, build trust, and nurture growth of children with special needs and complex medical conditions, while strengthening the families caring for them. In a typical year, the organization serves approximately 400 children in its core programs: shelters, full-time daycare, day/night respite services and overnight respite.
